I am a guitar player and a singer, and I have been playing and performing music since my earliest years. I was born in Glasgow in 1966 and lived there until I was almost 15, when we moved to South Devon. In my late teens and early twenties I spent some years searching for the Holy Grail of rock 'n' roll, playing in different bands in and around London and back in Scotland. In the early nineties I realised that after searching for so long, it was actually to be found back in Devon, so I moved back and have lived here since then. I am now a youthful 43 years of age.
I play both electric and acoustic guitar and I am an accomplished player in several styles including rock/pop, blues, country and acoustic fingerpicking. I am also a singer, and I have been the frontman in most of the bands that I have played in over the years. Although self-taught on guitar, my formal music training was at the piano, and I went through the graded exams from the age of six. I can also play bass guitar. Click on My Music to hear a selection of different styles, including my own music.
I play solo gigs as a guitarist/vocalist, using backing tracks which are all played and recorded by myself. The songs which I play are rock/pop cover versions, but I can also do country or rock 'n' roll gigs depending on the venue.
I also have a live band called Main Street. We have been playing together for several years and we have a large repertoire of songs in rock/pop styles. No serious stuff here, just one party song after another.
I play in an acoustic duo called The Guitar Factory which features myself and Nick T, who is an established solo performer in South Devon. We play our own stripped down versions of well-known songs with lots of harmonies and subtle acoustic playing.
For the last two years I have been fortunate enough to have been involved in a slightly more well-known band - Les McKeown's Legendary Bay City Rollers. I have played all over the country with the band, playing either guitar or keyboards and singing backing vocals. Never thought I'd be singing Bye Bye Baby live on stage after first hearing it as a wee boy in Glasgow!
Many of my gigs are in the West Country, but I am available to play ANYWHERE in the UK either as a solo performer or with the band. I have a wealth of experience in all sorts of musical settings - pubs, clubs, hotels, holiday camps, functions, corporate events, and parties. I am also available for weddings and I can provide a package for the whole day with music for the service, the meal, and the evening do.
